In an astonishing display of power hitting, Leicestershire's Louis Kimber took England pacer Ollie Robinson to the cleaners, scoring 43 runs in a single over during a County Championship Division Two match. This over has now become the most expensive in the history of English first-class cricket.

In the fourth innings at Hove, Kimber hit Robinson for five sixes and three fours across nine balls. The over included three free hits due to no-balls, which Kimber capitalized on to the fullest. It is worth noting that in English County Cricket, a no-ball is penalized with 2 runs.

What was the previous most expensive over in English first-class Cricket?

Robinson's over, on Wednesday, broke the previous record of 38 runs, which was conceded by Alex Tudor and Shoaib Bashir. Interestingly, Bashir had equalled that record just two days earlier when Dan Lawrence hit him for 38 runs in Surrey’s game against Worcestershire.

For Robinson, this over will be a hard pill to swallow. He is already facing criticism over fitness issues and underperformance and this record may now further jeopardize his place in the England Test setup.

What happened in the match between Sussex and Leicestershire?

Sussex seemed to have a firm grip on the match, with a first-innings score of 442 and a second-innings declaration at 296. However, Kimber’s explosive batting, nearing a double century from less than 100 balls, swung the momentum in favour of his team and put them in a strong position for their first win of the season after seven consecutive draws.
