Tim Tszyu's return to the ring has been cancelled, with the Australian needing additional time to recover from a head wound.

The Texan knockout artist Thomas Dulorme will need to wait, or seek other options, after he locked himself into a bout with Tszyu when he stopped Dulorme with a brutal body shot in the first round of their April 27 clash.

That result set up what has shaped as one of the most fan-friendly bouts of the year, but Tszyu's injury recovery has poured water on this three months out.

Slated to appear on a blockbuster show headlined by Terence Crawford's super welterweight debut against Israil Madrimov, Tszyu vs. Ortiz was set to be the Australian's return to the ring after his first career loss, against Sebastian Fundora.

Adding to the stakes, the interim WBA title was also on the line.

When is Tim Tszyu vs. Vergil Ortiz?

Tim Tszyu's August fight with Vergil Ortiz has been cancelled, with the Australian requiring additional time to recover according to medical advice.

"We are bitterly disappointed with the set back and Tim is extremely frustrated after a great pre-camp with Kostya," No Limit CEO George Rose said in a statement.

"He showed everyone that he’ll fight through anything against Fundora but this decision was taken out of his hands, to be honest.

"Ultimately, it was his body and medical professionals telling him he wasn’t ready yet.”

Tszyu's return time is now unclear, as is his next opponent.
