Nitu Ghanghas, Indian boxer and reigning world champion in women's 48kg category, has decided to move up to the 54kg category ahead of the Asian Games 2023.
Ghanghas had initially planned to move up to the 51kg category but as two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen has already staked her claim in the same category at the Asian Games, the 22-year-old had to settle for 54kg.

A national camp will be held in Patiala this week where in front of India’s High Performance Director Bernard Dunne and other selectors, the boxer has to prove her credentials in order to secure a spot for the Asian Games.

The 22-year-old qualified for the trials in the national camp by beating Divya Pawar and Sakshi Choudhary in an admission conducted by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
How many boxers will compete for a place in the Asian Games 2023?
Nitu Ghanghas will face competition from two more boxers, Jyoti Gulia and Preeti Pawar in the 54kg category and winner will represent India at the Asian Games 2023 in the said category.
The three boxers' performances will be evaluated by High Performance Director Bernard Dunne, India’s chief coach Dmitry Dmitruk and the head coach of the national women's boxing team Bhaskar Bhatt.

The Asian Games 2023 will take place between September 23 and October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
