Report: Sacramento Kings acquire Tristan Thompson in three-team deal with Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks image

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sacramento Kings are acquiring Tristan Thompson (Brampton, ON) in a three-team deal with the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks.

It was originally reported that Thompson would be going to the Hawks in a deal that would send Kris Dunn, Bruno Fernando and a 2023 second-round pick to the Celtics, but the Kings have entered the conversation.

While it appears that the Celtics will still receive that same package, the Hawks will now get point guard Delon Wright from the Kings.

Thompson is coming off of a quietly solid season with the Celtics, where his impact went well beyond his averages of 7.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He gives Sacramento a safety blanket with unrestricted free agency looming for center Richaun Holmes. Wright gives the Hawks some added guard depth after averaging 10.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 27 games with the Kings last season after being traded by the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline.

The Hawks give up a defensive-minded point guard in Dunn, who has one year, $5 million remaining on his two-year deal he signed with the Hawks last offseason. The No. 5 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft only appeared in four games last year due to a number of different injuries. He has averaged 2.0 steals per game twice in five seasons in the NBA. In addition to Dunn, the Celtics also get a 22-year-old athletic and tough-minded big man in Fernando and a future second-round pick.

The move frees up cap space for Boston to try and re-sign unrestricted free agent Evan Fournier and get back into title contention following a first-round exit last season.
