Tajinderpal Singh Toor made it to the World Athletics Championships in the men's shot put event by creating a new men's Asian record of 21.77m at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2023 in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
He was followed by Karanveer Singh (19.78m) and Sahib Singh (18.75m), who won silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Tajinderpal Singh managed to record the best throw of his career on his third attempt which broke his own previous Asian record of 21.49m that he achieved in Patiala in 2021.
The throw of 21.77m also breached the World Athletics Championships qualifying mark of 21.40m.

Tajinderpal is the reigning Asian Games and Asian Indoor champion. He won the gold medal at the Asian outdoor championships in 2019.
In 2023, the Indian athlete took part in six competitions thus far.
