Jyothi Yarraji won the gold medal in the women's 100m hurdles while Amlan Borgohain emerged victorious in the men's 200m race at the Kurpfalz Gala 2023 athletics meet in Weinheim, Germany on Saturday.
Yarraji, a 23-year-old sprinter from Andhra Pradesh, produced a stunning performance to clock a season-best time of 12.84 seconds in Final A, which helped her finish atop the podium at the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger meet. However, she just fell short 0.02 seconds of her own national record time of 12.82 seconds.
Yarraji showcased her dominance by topping the heats as well with a timing of 13.11 seconds, thereby earning a spot in the final.

This victory comes after her impressive performance at the Federation Cup 2023 in Ranchi, where she recorded a time of 12.89 seconds which helped her surpass the Asian Championships qualifying standard of 13.63 seconds set by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). In Germany, she improved by a further 0.05s which shows that the athlete is going in the right direction.

Meanwhile, Sapna Kumari, finished sixth with a time of 13.81 seconds. Kumari had previously secured her place in Final A with a time of 13.81 seconds in the overall standings and fourth place in Heat 1.
Luxembourg's Victoria Rausch claimed the silver medal with a time of 13.44 seconds, followed closely by Germany's Selina von Jackowski, who won bronze with a time of 13.47 seconds.
In the men's 200m event, Borgohain, who hails from Assam, achieved a season-best time of 20.66 seconds in a time trial format to emerge as the winner. He is also the current national record holder in the 200m event with a time of 20.52 seconds.
Despite his success in the 200m, Borgohain faced disappointment in the men's 100m event, finishing 11th with a time of 10.52 seconds.
