Erica Wiebe can add "Canada's flag bearer" to her impressive list of Commonwealth Games achievements.

The 28-year-old from Calgary was selected to lead Canada into Sunday's closing ceremony after she won the gold medal in the women's freestyle 76kg wrestling event on Thursday.

Wiebe entered the 2018 Commonwealth Games as the reigning champion in her event, and her repeat as gold medallist added another chapter to a dominant career. She is also the reigning Olympic champion, having claimed gold in the women's freestyle 75kg event at Rio 2016.

One thing Wiebe hasn't done yet is carry her nation's flag into an opening or closing ceremony, but she'll be able to cross that off her list when she waves the Maple Leaf at the Commonwealth Games finale (Sunday, 6:30 a.m. ET on DAZN).

To say she is excited by the honour is an understatement.

For Canada's Chef de Mission, Claire Carver-Dias, Wiebe's selection as flag bearer was a no-brainer.

"To win the 2014 Commonwealth Games, then the 2016 Olympic Games, and repeat again as Commonwealth Champion is an amazing achievement,” Carver-Dias said in a statement. "With her unquenchable energy and love of the Commonwealth Sport Movement, Erica embodies the true spirit of Canada's amazing athletes.”
