Caitlin Clark's regular season debut came against the Sun. It's only right they would face off again for Clark's maiden bow in the playoffs.
After a wobbly first month of the year — Clark's Fever went 1-8 to start 2024, worse than the 3-6 start in 2023 which helped net them the Iowa alum — Indiana is gelling, vanquishing 18 of its last 27 foes to notch its first postseason appearance since 2016.
Clark is among the biggest reasons why. She's formed a frightful trident with backcourt ace Kelsey Mitchell and star big Aliyah Boston. Mitchell is the fire to Clark's ice, having averaged the second-most points since the Olympic break in the WNBA (23.1). Clark ranks third.
Boston, too, has seen her role morph as Clark grows more comfortable orchestrating Christie Sides' offensive desires. The 2023 No. 1 pick is known as an elite paint scorer. However, she's impressed in the short roll as of late, proving an effective battery mate for the whirling dervish that is Clark.

That's not to mention the additional cast of characters who sparkle Sides' rotation, from NaLyssa Smith and Lexie Hull to Erica Wheeler and Temi Fagbenle. All that amounts to a team on the rise, one that hopes it can outmatch an aging but admirable Connecticut side led by Alyssa Thomas.
Clark has had her fair share of matchups with the Sun before. This one means more, though. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
With that, here's a look at Clark's performance vs. Connecticut, by the numbers.

Caitlin Clark highlights vs. Connecticut Sun
Clark wasn't able to find the target much to start the contest, seeing each of her first three shot attempts stray elsewhere.
Her fourth effort was the one that hit home; Clark bypassed Marina Mabrey's physical defense, scooping a reverse effort off the glass and in to get on the board.

Clark's passing remained as effervescent as ever. The Iowa product got her teammates involved in the game's earliest moments, hitting Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell with precise passes to set up makes.

As the game progressed, however, Indiana's defensive approach — centered around surrounding Clark with length and athleticism — began to make its mark. Clark was hounded by a cavalcade of Sun defenders, namely DeWanna Bonner and DiJonai Carrington. They imposed their will on Clark, who flashed her impressive play-making chops but saw her shot attempts routinely fall flat.

There were a brief moments of bliss for the 22-year old guard, who sank a pair of triples in the third in the hopes of powering a Fever rally.

But by and large, Clark was held quiet. The result? A resounding Fever loss, one that brings them one game away from postseason elimination.
