After a less-than-stellar beginning to the 2018-19 season, the Washington Wizards have been dealt another blow

Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reports that All-Star point guard John Wall is likely to undergo season-ending surgery on his heel, per Wizards head coach Scott Brooks.

The Wizards later confirmed the report and expect Wall to miss approximately six to eight months.

The issue has plagued Wall for over a year and doctors decided the procedure was necessary for the star playmaker, according to ESPN.

Surgery for Wall would mean he has played in a total of just 73 games over the past two seasons. Despite dealing with the injury issues, the Wizards' point guard has averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 32 games this season.

Wall missed the Wizards' last game – a 101-92 loss to the Chicago Bulls that saw the team fall to 13-23 on the year.

Wall will undergo a debridement and repair of a Haglund’s deformity and a chronic Achilles tendon injury in his left heel.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, WI, next week on a day to be determined. Wall is expected to return to full basketball activity in approximately six to eight months.
