The final Grand Slam tennis tournament for 2022 will get underway Monday as the US Open begins in New York City.

Canada has yet to find success at a major this season. The farthest a Canadian player has gotten at a major this year is the quarterfinals. Both Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov reached the quarters at the Australian Open, while Leylah Fernandez made it to the quarters at the French Open.

The US Open is the only major where a Canadian has won previously, with Bianca Andreescu claiming a title in 2020. This year, she is one of five Canadian players entered in singles competition.

Will a Canadian raise another US Open trophy? Here is more to know about the Canadians at this year's tournament.

Which Canadian players are in the 2022 US Open?

Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov will compete in men's singles. Leylah Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu and Rebecca Marino will compete in women's singles.

Félix Auger-Aliassime

Auger-Aliassime comes into the US Open off quarterfinal appearances at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters. He is ranked No. 6 in the world.

This is the sixth consecutive year Auger-Aliassime is playing at the US Open. He has advanced farther and farther each year. He made it to the 2021 semifinals, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

Denis Shapovalov

Shapovalov is looking to improve on his third-round loss in the 2021 edition. The 23-year-old made it to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Italian Open but has lost in the first, second and third rounds in his subsequent tournaments.

He has participated in the last five US Opens, reaching the third round every time and getting to the quarterfinals in 2020.

Leylah Fernandez

Fernandez comes into the tournament ranked No. 14 by the WTA. The 19-year-old won the Mexican Open in March and made it to the Round of 16 at Indian Wells. She got to the quarterfinals at the French Open, where she lost to Martina Trevisan.

She was forced to miss the Wimbledon with a foot injury she suffered at Roland Garros. Fernandez is coming off a first-round loss at the Cincinnati Masters. This will be her second US Open appearance. She lost in the third round last year.

Bianca Andreescu

The 21-year-old Andreescu missed the beginning of the 2022 season but has been getting back to her normal self, especially on grass, since returning. Andreescu notably made it to the final of the Bad Homburg open in Germany. She lost to Carolina Garcia. Since then, she has yet to make it to a tournament quarterfinal.

The native of Mississauga won the 2019 US Open, defeating Serena Williams to become the first Canadian player to win a Grand Slam singles title. After missing the 2020 tournament, she advanced to the fourth round in 2021.
