Game Preview
All eyes will be on Mississauga native RJ Barrett as he makes his pro debut in Toronto on Wednesday night. Barrett didn't dress in the Knicks' two-point loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday but has said that he's ready to go against the team pro team he grew up watching.
“I can’t miss tomorrow night,” Barrett said at practice on Tuesday. “I gotta go play for everybody I love.”
The 19-year-old rookie is averaging 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists through 16 games with New York. Other than Barrett, Knicks' fans haven't had much to cheer about in the early going this season. At 4-13, New York sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference heading into Wednesday matchup.
Shot selection has been a point of contention with the Knicks so far this season. They rank in the bottom five of the league in both true shooting (52.2) and effective field goal (49.3) percentages.
Conversely, teams have had a tough time shooting well against the Raptors. Toronto is only allowing teams to an effective field goal rate of 48.2% which is the best in the league ahead of Wednesday's games.
If you're looking for one key to the game for Toronto, it's keeping the Knicks off the offensive glass. No team pulls down more offensive rebounds than the Knicks and no team scores more second-chance points per game than New York. Boxing out will be key for the Raptors on Wednesday.
Injury Report
Kyle Lowry (thumb), Stanley Johnson (groin) and Patrick McCaw (knee) are out for the Raptors. Serge Ibaka (ankle) is questionable.
Elfrid Payton (hamstring), Reggie Bullock (back) are both out for the Knicks.
