Kyle Lowry was forced out of Friday's blowout win over the Pelicans with a left thumb injury.
Lowry told reporters post-game, the injury occurred battling for a rebound with Derick Favours. Initially, he and the medical staff believed it was a nail bed injury but tests revealed it was more than that. A small fracture in his left thumb — the same thumb that was surgically repaired this summer, but reports are that the two injuries aren't related.
"I mean I played through it a little bit, I was just kind of...you know thought it was just a jam," Lowry told reporters post-game. "Like I said we thought it was a nail bed and it's a little bit more serious than a nail bed.
"Whatever, we'll be fine."
Lowry left the game at halftime and didn't return for the second half. He finished the game with six points, five assists in just 16 minutes.
If he is out for an extended period of time it's a tough blow to the Raptors who have leaned on Lowry's hot start heavily through the first eight games of the year.
Lowry leads the league in minutes per game averaging 39.0 minutes per contest. Without the Raptor captain, the backcourt is fairly thin with Fred VanVleet the only other guard who's played consistently to start the year.
The attention of the fanbase now turns to an all-important follow-up appointment Saturday morning when the Raptors arrive in Los Angeles ahead of their back-to-back games against the Lakers and Clippers.
"We're going to get a specialist seen tomorrow when we get to LA and we'll figure it out from there," Lowry continued.
"Just make sure we see the doctor tomorrow, we spent the pictures off to the doctors and they said what they thought it was.
"We'll see them tomorrow and we'll make a decision then."
