After dropping their home-opener, the Toronto Raptors head to Boston looking for their first win of the year.
Shots simply weren't falling for the Raptors in game No. 1, as Toronto shot just 30.9 percent from the field and struggled big time from long-range going 7-for-34 from 3 . 19 turnovers on opening night didn't exactly set the Raptors up for success either.
''We weren't really executing much of anything at either end,'' Raptors coach Nick Nurse told reporters after their 98-83 loss to the Wizards.
The good news? That game is firmly behind Toronto and it has 81 left to play. Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby and rookie Scottie Barnes, who each struggled from the field should have a better shooting performance than they did on opening night.
The Celtics also came up short in their first game of the year, however, it was a much more entertaining contest than the one the Raptors played in. In a double-overtime thriller in New York City, which had MSG rocking like the Knicks' glory days, Jaylen Brown fed off that energy and produced a stellar 46-point career-high outing in the loss.
Brown spent 10 days in quarantine recovering from COVID-19 and played 46 minutes on Wednesday.
''My breathing felt irregular but fine for the most part,'' Brown said after the game. ''Toward the end, I could feel my heart beating through my chest.
''It would have been better if we got a win."
While Brown was red-hot going 16-for-30 from the field, his All-Star teammate Jayson Tatum struggled to find his touch, going a dismal 7-for-30 from the floor to finish with 20 points. Tatum took 15 3s in the loss and hit on just two of those attempts. A bounce-back game may be in order for one of the league's bright young stars.
