Report: Fred VanVleet to undergo surgery on left thumb, sidelining him for 'approximately' five weeks image

After reports of backcourt help being on the way in the form of Jeremy Lin, the Toronto Raptors have been hit with some bad news.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Fred VanVleet will undergo surgery on his left thumb, sidelining him for approximately five weeks.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday that VanVleet would miss at least three weeks and be re-evaluated.

 

VanVleet suffered the injury in the second quarter of Saturday's 104-99 win over the New York Knicks according to the team.

VanVleet is enjoying a career year in his third season with the Raptors, averaging 10.5 points and 4.6 assists while shooting 37% from three-point range in 51 appearances.
