Serena Williams' quest to match Margaret Court's all-time Grand Slam singles record has been delayed yet again — in emphatic fashion.
Seventh-seeded Simona Halep beat Williams in 56 minutes, winning 6-2, 6-2 in the 2019 Wimbledon final on Saturday. It's unlikely she could have played a better match, blanketing the court, placing her shots beautifully and committing just three errors.
This was just Halep's second time ever beating Williams, bringing her all-time record in the series to 9-2. This marks the first time Williams has ever lost three major finals in succession since she made her first final in 1999. The 37-year-old also lost last year's WImbledon final to Angelique Kerber.

"She literally played out of her mind," WIlliams said on the telecast after the match. "So congratulations, Simona."
With the win, Halep is now 2-3 in Grand Slam finals, including her 2018 French Open title. This was her first Wimbledon championship, and her first appearance.
