Denis Shapovalov is officially Canada's second-ranked men's tennis player.

The 18-year-old saw his world ranking jump 18 spots on Monday to a career-best No. 51 thanks to a run to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Open earlier this month. Shapovalov's success at Flushing Meadows followed on the heels of a semifinal berth at the Rogers Cup in Montreal in August.

His new ranking vaults him past compatriot Vasek Pospisil, who dropped four places to No. 82.

However, Shapovalov still has a way to go to catch Milos Raonic as Canada's top-ranked player on the ATP Tour. Raonic slipped one spot to No. 11 after a wrist injury forced him to miss the U.S. Open.

Other notable Canadians include Peter Polansky (128th), and Shapovalov's good friend (and fellow teenager) Felix Auger-Aliassime, who climbed 58 spots to claim No. 168.
