Serena Williams started her US Open swan song with a first-round win over Danka Kovinic on Monday night, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Williams took the court to a record, raucous crowd: 29,402 took in the first-round matchup inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

In front of her is no small task: Williams will be facing world-ranked No. 2 Anett Kontaveit on Wednesday. Kontaveit downed Jaqueline Cristian 6-3, 6-0 in the first round, keeping her 2022 momentum rolling. Kontaveit is searching for her first career Grand Slam tournament win. She was ousted in the third round of last year's US Open.
