ATP's world No. 27 Bianca Andreescu has battled her way all the way to the Rogers Cup semifinals.

The 19-year-old Canadian star advanced again with yet another upset victory on Friday when she defeated World No. 3 Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. She is the first Canadian woman to advance to the tournament's semifinals since 1979.

The Mississauga, Ont., native, has now acted as a spoiler in each of her last two matches against higher-seeded opponents in the tournament. On Thursday, she defeated world No. 5 Kiki Bertens.

Andreescu wasted no time to kick off the match, cruising by in the first set with seven winners, while Pliskova double-faulted three times in the fourth game.

However, the Louny, Czech Republic native would take the second set without much resistance from the underdog Canadian, who also had to take a medical timeout and played through an apparent groin injury.

Despite the circumstances heading into yet another decider, Andreescu held on, able to fight through and capitalize on Pliskova's mistakes, the most significant coming when she returned serve for match point directly into the net.

Andreescu will face a lower-seeded opponent this time around when she plays World No. 29 Sofia Kenin in the semifinals on Saturday.
