Monte Carlo Masters 2018: Banged up Raonic wins in straight sets against Cecchinato image

If the blister he was playing with on his right hand, or the eye infection that caused him to pull out of the doubles tournament at Monte Carlo wasn't enough, Milos Raonic required medical attention midway through the first set of his match Wednesday for a knee injury.

But after taking a medical timeout to receive attention from the physio for an ailing right knee, Raonic bounced back to play through his various problems and into the third round.

Raonic defeated wild card qualifier Marco Cecchinato in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-2.

In the first set, Raonic broke to go up 6-5, but was broken right back by the 25-year-old Italian to force a tiebreak. From there, Raonic was finally able to put away Cecchinato with a forehand slam.

Raonic ran into far less drama in the second set, beginning to pull away with a strong service game, producing nine aces in the second set to none from Cecchinato. Raonic only dropped one point on serve in the second set, showing no signs of whatever was bothering him in his knee earlier in the match.

For the third consecutive tournament, Raonic will move on to the third round. He will take on the No. 2 seed, Marin Cilic.
