Milos Raonic is returning to the BNP Paribas Open semifinals for the third time in four years.
The World No. 38 booked his ticket to the next round at Indian Wells by defeating the United States' Sam Querrey, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals Friday.
Raonic took an early lead, winning the first set 7-5, but Querrey came back more composed in the second and forced a decisive third set. Raonic, who recorded 17 aces in the match, finished things off after an hour and 51 minutes to secure his spot in the semis.

An injury kept Raonic out of the 2017 tournament, but he has a history of success in the desert. He advanced to the 2016 finals before losing the tournament title to Novak Djokovic. The year prior, he made it to the semifinals before falling to Roger Federer.
Raonic will face Juan Martin del Potro in this year's semifinal Saturday at Indian Wells.
