World no.1 Jannik Sinner has been forced to withdraw from the tennis tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Italian was set to be the number one seed in the battle for a gold medal at Roland-Garros, but instead world no.2 Novak Djokovic will step up as top seed.
With the tennis set to begin in Paris on July 27, The Sporting News has the latest on Sinner.

Is Jannik Sinner playing at the Olympics in 2024?
Sinner, the current world no.1, will not be playing at the Paris 2024 Olympics after withdrawing because of tonsilitis.
The 22-year-old was a recent French Open semi-finalist and his absence paves the way for a rematch of the recent Wimbledon final between champion Carlos Alcaraz and Djokovic.
"Missing the Olympics is a big disappointment, given that it was one of my main goals this season," Sinner wrote on Instagram.
"I couldn't wait to have the honour of representing my country in this extremely important event."
Who will replace Jannik Sinner at the Olympics?
With Sinner's withdrawal, 207th ranked Andrea Vavassori will step up to play men's singles for Italy.
Sinner will also be replaced in the men's doubles by Luciano Darderi, who will play alongside Lorenzo Musetti.

The tennis tournaments at the 2024 Olympic Games will be held at Stade Roland-Garros, the same clay-court complex in Paris that hosts the French Open each year.
The opening rounds of the men's and women's singles and doubles tournaments are scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 27. The mixed doubles event begins on Monday, July 29.
The tennis schedule concludes on Sunday, August 4, with the women's doubles and men's singles finals.
