Denis Shapovalov aced his way to the round of 32 at the 2019 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif.
The Vaughan, Ont. native and world No. 25 took down American and world No. 38 Steve Johnson 6-3, 6-4 with eight aces in the match, winning 39 of 43 first-serve points.

The 19-year-old Canadian played well on return points as well breaking Johnson's serve twice. He also held serve on both of Johnson's break point opportunities.

Shapovalov has a challenge in front of him as he is set to face world No. 11 Marin Cilic of Croatia in the round of 32. A win would aid Shapovalov in surpassing his career-best ranking of 23rd.
