UPDATE: On Sunday morning, Milos Raonic withdrew from the tournament.
When the first ball is tossed to signify the start of the 2021 French Open, it'll be just a few ticks over 230 days since the last champion was crowned.
The 2021 edition of the tennis season's second Grand Slam is closer to the norm after last year's tournament moved to late September due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's event was pushed a week later than normal, with the hope of allowing more fans to attend. Now, the red clay of Roland Garros is ready to go and four Canadians will hit the courts in Paris with their sights set on a singles title.
Things kick off on Sunday, with the women's final on June 12 and the men's final on June 13. Here's everything you need to know about how to watch the Canadians competing in the 2021 French Open.
Which Canadian players are in the 202 French Open?
Félix Auger-Aliassime and Milos Raonic will compete in men's singles. On the women's side, it'll be Leylah Annie Fernandez and Bianca Andreescu. Sharon Fichman and Gabriela Dabrowski are competing in doubles.
Yes, Andreescu is back — once again.
The Mississauga, Ont., native returned to the court for the Australian Open in January. After reaching the semifinals at the Phillip Island Trophy, she was forced to retire in the final of the Miami Open due to a foot injury. She had to miss the Milan Open due to a positive COVID-19 test and then withdrew from the Italian Open, as she would have had to quarantine. Just a few days ago Andreescu, 20, withdrew from the French Open tune-up in Strasbourg, France due to "a little bit of an ab tear.
"I don't want to push it at all for Roland Garros," she said.
Seeded sixth in 2021 (No. 7 in the WTA rankings), Andreescu makes only her second career appearance at Roland Garros. She competed in 2019, but withdrew after her first-round win due to a shoulder injury. Situated in the bottom half of the draw, Andreescu, 20, is on a collision course with Naomi Osaka in the quarters.

The tournament also marks the return of Raonic, who last played at the Miami Open in late March. He did not compete in any action this clay court season in advance of the French Open. The Thornhill, Ont., native is seeded 17th and is backed by a solid history at the tournament. While the 30-year-old hasn't played in Paris since 2017 (missing 2018 and 2019 due to injury and 2020 non-injury related), he advanced to the Round of 16 in both 2016 and 2017 and the quarterfinals in 2014.
Fernandez, 18, burst onto the scene last year and is now ranked 69th in the world. She won her first career title when she defeated Viktorija Golubic in Mexico in March. Returning to Paris is always a bright spot for the Laval, Que., native, as she won the junior title there in 2019. This year's tournament marks her second main draw at Roland Garros. In 2020, she advanced to the Round of 32 before falling to No. 7 seed Petra Kvitova in two sets.
Montrealer Auger-Aliassime, seeded 20th, heads to Paris after an up-and-down clay court season. In his most recent tune-up in Lyon, France, he lost his first match to 88th-ranked Lorenzo Musetti. He did advance to the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals in Rome and Barcelona, respectively, but also lost in the first round in two other tournaments. The 20-year-old has only played in Paris' main draw once before, in 2020, where he lost in the first round to Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka. He has a tough half of the draw the year, as the "Big Three" of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic all stand in his way of a spot in the final.

In doubles, Sharon Fichman and her partner Giuliana Olmos are seeded ninth. The duo just won the Italian Open and advanced to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open back in January. Canadian doubles specialist is teaming up with countrywoman Leylah Annie Fernandez. They just competed at the Serbian Open where they lost a tough three-set match in the Round of 16.
Why is Denis Shapovalov not playing at the 2021 French Open?
The highest-ranked Canadian man, Shapovalov, will not compete at the French Open. A day after losing to Casper Ruud in the final of the Geneva Open, he withdrew from the tournament due to a nagging shoulder injury.
I’m saddened to share that after consulting with my medical team I’ve made the difficult decision to withdrawal from @rolandgarros. Unfortunately my shoulder has been bothering me and while medical tests look good, it is for the best to rest. See you in 2022, Roland-Garros. pic.twitter.com/BkCWWQ9Fd8

Big things were expected from the Richmond Hill, Ont., native. He not only had that finals appearance, but also pushed the "King of Clay" Nadal to the brink in Rome. In the Round of 16, the 22-year-old lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-7(3).
Vasek Pospisil also won't compete, opting to prepare for the grass court season instead.
