Vasek Pospisil found out he was playing in the opening singles match of the Davis Cup just hours before his match.
It turned out to be a tough start to the day.

After replacing Peter Polansky due to a bone bruise and tendinopathy, or tendon pain, Pospisil fell to Borna Coric 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2. Though Pospisil won the first set, he was unable to hold off Coric, 46th in the latest ATP rankings.

The Vernon native took the first set 6-3 but Coric was dominant through the remainder of the match and served out after two hours and 19 minutes of play.

The 27-year-old Pospisil entered the Davis Cup fresh off his sixth ATP Challenger Tour title Jan. 28 at the Open de Rennes in France, jumping up to 85th in the ATP, 20 spots better than his previous rank.
Canada will look to even up the first-round World Group matchup when Denis Shapovalov takes on Viktor Galovic in the second rubber of the head-to-had on Friday.
