Citi Open 2018: Denis Shapovalov moves onto to third round with 3-set win image

Denis Shapovalov had to make a couple of comebacks in his 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday in the Round of 32 of the Citi Open.

His first came in the second set. After a losing the first sit, Shapovalov dominated the second set, only losing one game. He had three aces to Medvedev’s none and won 44 percent of his first return points to Medvedev’s eight percent. He also won 80 percent of his serves in the second set as well as 53 percent Medvedev’s serves in the set.

Shapovalov saw himself down again in the third set as Medvedev had a 4-1 lead. However, Shapovalov rallied to win the next five games, giving him the set and the match.

 

 

Shapovalov’s out-aced Mevedev again in the third set, 9-1. He also won 86 percent of his first service points in the set.

As for his third round match, Shapovalov will face the winner of the Donald Young-Kei Nishikori match.
