It's only fitting that Denis Shapovalov won on International Left-Handers Day.
The Canadian lefty, who famously uses his backhand to terrorize opponents on the ATP Tour, defeated Portugal's Joao Sousa 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday in the Round of 64 of the Cincinnati Masters.
It didn't appear to be Shapovalov's day early in the match, with Sousa pouncing on the 20-year-old for a couple of break points and a dominant first-set victory. Coming off the heels of four first-round exits in his last five tournaments, Shapovalov was in real danger stumbling at the first hurdle yet again.
However, the affable Canuck, who entered the tournament at a season-low No. 34 in the world, battled back from the outset of the second frame to get himself back in the match, using his left-handed grip to find great success and force a decider.

Shapovalov would go on to hit three aces and convert on three break point opportunities (while saving four) as he overwhelmed his opponent in a fashion that has rarely been seen this summer.
In total, Shapovalov hit 28 winners and won 13 points at the net to complete the comeback.
