Just two days after retiring during her round of 16 match in Miami, Bianca Andreescu has withdrawn from next week's Volvo Car Open in Charleston, S.C.
Andreescu was forced to cut Monday's match against Anett Kontaveit short after receiving medical attention to her right shoulder. The 18-year-old Canadian had struggled with soreness in that shoulder throughout the Miami Open, and also during her title-winning run at Indian Wells earlier this month.
Despite her best attempts to play through the pain, Andreescu was forced to end Monday's match — her 35th of the year — early. The teenager was down 1-6, 0-2 at the time.

"I have played so many matches," Andreescu told reporters after Monday's truncated match. "I guess this is just a way of my body telling me that it's had enough. The physios and the doctor said that it's nothing too serious, but the pain is there, and I couldn't continue today."
Even with the relatively good prognosis, Andreescu ultimately decided that playing in Charleston would be too tall a task.
The tennis world's fastest-rising star, Andreescu shot to prominence with her victoy at Indian Wells. She took down world No. 4 Angelique Kerber in the final, then defeated the German again in Miami six days later, prompting Kerber to call the Canadian a "drama queen" for taking multiple medical timeouts. Andreescu entered the year ranked 152nd in the world, but a 31-4 record in 2019 propelled her to her current spot as the world No. 24.
