Bianca Andreescu's 2020 debut will have to wait a little longer.
The Canadian tennis star on Tuesday dropped out of next week's Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships as she continues her recovery from a left knee injury she suffered at the WTA Finals in October 2019.
"I’m not at 100 percent yet and following my team and doctor’s recommendation, I don’t want to take any risk to re-injure my knee," Andreescu said in a statement via Sportsnet. "Each day I get closer to being back to the court competing, but Dubai is just too soon."

Andreescu was on Team Canada's roster for last week's Fed Cup loss to Switzerland, scheduled to only play doubles in consideration of her rehab. She didn't make it to the court since Switzerland defeated the Canadians 3-1 before the potential tie-breaking doubles match, which would have pitted teenage Andreescu alongside Gabby Dabrowski in her first match of the year.
The reigning U.S. Open champion finished the 2019 season ranked No. 5 in the world; she currently sits at No. 6, 90 points behind Belinda Bencic.
For now, Andreescu is still entered in the Qatar Total Open, which starts on Feb. 23.
