Bianca Andreescu vs. Karolina Pliskova results: Canadian retires due to injury after one set image

Bianca Andreescu retired from her match against world No. 2 Karolina Pliskova Wednesday after just one set.

An early injury just two games into the match left Andreescu limping with an apparent left knee injury. A trainer wrapped her knee up, but she was heard telling her coach during a break in action that she could feel her knee crack  with each step she took.

"My knee twisted," Andreescu told coach Sylvain Bruneau, according to the WTA .  "I heard a crack, she validated me that it’s my mensicus. I can't bend my knee at all. It's cracking every time I walk and it friggin' hurts.”

The defending U.S. Open champion made it just one set against Pliskova, which she lost 6-3 before calling it a match. The shortened match lasted just over 50 minutes in total.

With the loss, Andreescu was eliminated from semifinal qualification. Pliskova will next play Halep, who Andreescu faced first in the tournament , to determine who will take the second spot in the Purple Group in the Finals' next round.
