The tennis season unofficially begins with the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, and this year's tournament has plenty of homegrown talent to cheer on.
Canada's continued rise in the tennis world means there are several players representing the Maple Leaf at the first Grand Slam event of the year. The men's side is well represented, with Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil all taking part in the main draw, while 17-year-old Leylah Annie Fernandez is Canada's lone representative on the women's side.
The first round starts Jan. 20 in Melbourne (Jan. 19 in Canada), with the finals taking place two weeks later.

Why is Bianca Andreescu not playing in Australian Open 2020?
Bianca Andreescu, Canada's top-ranked player, will not participate in this year's tournament as she continues to recover from a knee injury sustained during the WTA Finals in October.
Andreescu, 19, has already struggled with several injuries in her young career. The Mississauga, Ont., native missed a substantial chunk of 2019 with a shoulder ailment, and the knee injury sustained Oct. 30 will keep her out until at least February.
