Milos Raonic booked his ticket to the Australian Open's third round on Tuesday when he defeated Chile's Cristian Garin in straight sets at Melbourne Arena.
World No. 35 Raonic needed just an hour and 37 minutes to eliminate world No. 36 Garin, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, in their first meeting as pros. Raonic held the advantage the entire match; he served 19 aces to Garin's two, converted all four of his break point opportunities and hit 35 winners to Garin's 12.
Raonic broke Garin's serve early in the first set and didn't let go, winning four of the first five games. That became the status quo: Garin at one point in the second set threatened a comeback, but Raonic ended his opponent's three break point opportunities at 4-3 to retain the lead.

In the third set, Raonic broke the Chilean's serve in the fifth and seventh game; he took the last five games as part of his 6-2 final set and a win that keeps him the lone Canadian remaining in the Open's singles tournament.
Raonic's 19 aces throughout Tuesday's match adds $1,900 AUD to the amount Tennis Canada is donating to the Australian Red Cross’ bushfire relief fund throughout the tournament.
The Canadian star will meet another opponent he has never faced before in the third round — world No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas. The exact time and court for Raonic's next match on Wednesday has not yet been scheduled.
