If it's the second round and it's a Grand Slam event, it must mean that Denis Shapovalov faces Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a much anticipated match.
Late last summer, Shapovalov squared off against Tsonga in the Round of 64 at the U.S. Open -- the Canadian teen's maiden voyage at a Grand Slam event. Now, in his second Grand Slam appearance, Shapovalov again plays Tsonga at the Australian Open in the Round of 64 Tuesday evening.
The 18-year-old Shapovalov can only hope this match goes as well as the previous one against the French veteran. Playing under the lights on the main court at Arthur Ashe Stadium last August, Shapovalov won a stirring, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 straight-sets victory over Tsonga, an upset that jumpstarted his push tall the way to the Round of 16 where he lost three straight tiebreaks in a 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 defeat at the hands of Pablo Carreno Busta.
Of course, if Shapovalov surprised Tsonga with his powerful play, tremendous athleticism and charismatic connection with the crowd five months ago, one can expect Tsonga to be better prepared for his young opponent on Tuesday. Despite that previous upset loss, Tsonga is the favorite on Tuesday. He is the 15th-ranked player in the world, while Shapovalov is ranked No. 50 and is the youngest player ranked in the Top 100.
Despite Tsonga's seeming advantage, Shapovalov stated, "I definitely feel I'm on top of my game".

Both players reached this much-anticipated rematch without breaking too much of a sweat. Shapovalov disposed of fellow Next Gen player Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-1, 6-3, 7-6 in the first round, converting five of eight break points and delivering nine aces along the way.
"I think I played extremely well," noted Shapovalov. "I felt from the warm up that I was feeling the ball really clean and I was able to get the lead right from the start."
Tsonga, who lost the Australian Open Final to Novak Djokovic a decade ago in 2008, defeated American qualifier Kevin King 6-4, 6-4, 6-1 in Melbourne two days ago. The 32-year-old Tsonga hit 43 winners, compared to 23 by King.
Shapovalov said earlier in the week that "it would be an honour" to play Tsonga again.
Let's see how he feels after Tuesday's match against a revenge-minded foe.
