Will Tottenham make top 4? Predictions, betting odds for Spurs in 2023/24 season image

Tottenham Hotspur are once again starting from scratch, this time with Ange Postecoglou running the show.

The Australian manager enjoyed a successful two-year spell at Celtic, winning the Bhoys a world-record eighth treble last season. Spurs then swooped for him at the start of the summer after sacking Antonio Conte midway through the second half of 2022/23.

Postecoglou has already started to sway from the defensive mindset left behind by the Italian and has started to instil an ultra-attacking style of play with new signing James Maddison and club captain Harry Kane being integral to that change.

But the question on many Spurs fans' minds is whether or not the club can keep their all-time top scorer. Throughout preseason, Postecoglou has continuously stated his desire to keep Kane in the squad, but Bayern Munich are trying their best to sign him.

Whether Kane stays or goes remains to be seen, and it will no doubt have a monumental impact on their hopes of securing Champions League football this season.

Spurs 20223/24 season prediction: Does it all depend on Harry Kane?

The answer is a bit more complex than 'no, it's an 11-person team sport'.

The England skipper is yet again being linked with a move away from North London this summer, this time to German champions Bayern Munich. It has been widely reported that Bayern had two bids rejected by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, one of which was suggested to be worth somewhere in the region of €100 million, but it has since been claimed Spurs have accepted an offer.

Do Spurs' top-four hopes rely on Kane? Since 2014/15 in the league, he has an average of 28.4 goal contributions per season. Quite remarkable for a "one-season wonder", right?

Their other option at striker would be Richarlison, who was signed last summer for £60 million/$74 million. He made 27 appearances in the league last season and managed just one goal. Considering Kane bagged 30 goals in a struggling side, it would be hard to see where those goals can come from this season if he were to leave.

Son Heung-min struggled under Conte but still managed to reach double digits for goals in the league last season. If he can find the form from 2021/22, where he was able to reach 30 goal contributions (23 goals, seven assists), the reliance on Kane would at least be reduced.

Adding Maddison to the mix will be key for Spurs this season and considering they are without European football, they can now solely focus on the league. The former Leicester City man only made 30 appearances in the league last term and finished with 10 goals and nine assists. If he is to have Kane ahead of him, that duo could be one to watch.

It's not just on the attacking front where Spurs have strengthened. Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg became their latest recruit, the Dutch defender signing for £35m/$45m, and if you are yet to see this clip... you should give it a watch.

So, what can you expect from Spurs this season? You should expect improvement from last season's horror show, but with the Kane saga hanging over the squad, it may be tough for them to get off to a good start.

If the situation is resolved and Kane does indeed stay, they could be a dark horse for a top-four spot this season.

When did Spurs last qualify for the Champions League?

It has not been long since Spurs were last in the Champions League: they competed in it in 2022/23 and made it through the group stages.

They were, however, knocked out in the Round of 16 after a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan. Some of the football on display across those two legs was where some fans drew the line with Conte and he was sacked just a few weeks later.

Having said that, they have missed out on a top-four finish in three out of the past four league campaigns. They missed out on fourth by a solid 11 points, so to say Postecoglou has a task on his hands would be an understatement.
