The 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup will be an entertaining battle between the best 16 teams in North America for the coveted regional crown.

Defending champions USA won the last Gold Cup edition in 2021, and tacked on two straight Nations League crowns on either side of that triumph.

Canada and Mexico, the other two giants of the confederation, are also well positioned to challenge for the title, but there could be others who emerge in the tournament.

Jamaica have a chance to make a push, having made the final four in three of the last four editions. Panama reached the Gold Cup final twice since 2005, while Honduras are always a threat. At the other end of the spectrum, St. Kitts and Nevis will be making their Gold Cup final stage debut after a successful qualifying campaign.

2023 Gold Cup betting odds and favorites

With the USA and Mexico combining to win 15 of the 16 Gold Cup tournaments since the regional tournament was relaunched in 1991, it's no surprise that the two CONCACAF giants are the top two favorites to win this year's competition.

However, the sports books seem undecided on which one has the edge. Despite the United States dominating Mexico 3-0 in their Nations League semifinal just over a week before the Gold Cup started, and then firing manager Diego Cocca, El Tri are still favorites to win on some sportsbooks.

This is likely due to the turnover on the U.S. roster, which sees only four players remain from the Nations League squad, while the other 19 are fresh callups. However, many other top nations have done the same, including both Mexico and Canada, although to a lesser extent.

Who will win the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup?

  • Prediction: Canada to win the title (+450 on Caesars) over United States

The United States are the deepest team in the CONCACAF region by a wide margin, but even for them, changing out the entire roster can only lead to so much competitive ability.

Still, the defending champions will compete hard in this event. Indeed, the 2021 Gold Cup triumph came with a similarly rotated roster, proving it's possible.

Mexico, meanwhile, are in complete shambles. They're still one of the top teams in the confederation, but their days as kings of CONCACAF are over, at least for now. They have little depth, and now they have no coach. It's hard to see them pushing for a spot in the final, let alone winning the title.

Canada, however, are in a great spot. While they sent attacking stars Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies home for an early vacation, the rest of the first-choice roster mostly remains, including star midfielder Stephen Eustaquio and goalkeeper Milan Borjan. They are well-positioned to secure their first continental trophy since 2000, and manager John Herdman can certainly craft a title run.
