Who will Coutinho play for next season? Barcelona star's future after Bayern exit image

Philippe Coutinho has endured a mixed bag of success over the past few seasons, his dream move to Barcelona turning out to be a painful nightmare despite having emerged as one of Liverpool's most vital players.

A disappointing turnout for the Blaugrana led Coutinho to be loaned out to Bayern, but the midfielder's time in Germany has now come to an end following the conclusion of the season and a Champions League victory.

So which club will the playmaker sign for?  Goal  takes a look.

Where will Philippe Coutinho play next season?

The Brazil international has a slew of options for his next destination, with Bayern Munich foregoing the option to sign him permanently now that his loan deal has been completed.

Coutinho is still tied to Barcelona until 2023, but it is understood that the club will be looking to offload the player instead of trying to re-implement him into the team following the lack of success he had in his debut season.

The midfielder struggled to justify his £142 ($187m) transfer from Liverpool in January 2018, which made him Barcelona's most expensive player ever.

He has reportedly been eyed by a handful of Premier League clubs after what was arguably a successful season at Bayern Munich - scoring two goals against parent side Barcelona in the historic 8-2 Champions League quarter-final victory.

A loan move appears to be the most viable option for the former Anfield man.

“If he stays it’s because Barca couldn’t find another club,” says Ignasi Oliva, Goal's Barcelona correspondent. “Don’t rule out another loan in the last days of the [summer] transfer window.”

Coutinho's agent has expressed the player's desire to return to England, telling Sky Sports : "He has a desire to come back to the Premier League at some point.

"It may not happen this year, it may happen this year but we don't know. We really have not discussed anything for now."

Arsenal are said to be interested in signing the playmaker, though a lack of Champions League football might sway Coutinho's decision. Chelsea have also been tipped with signing Coutinho, though they have already introduced the attacking forces of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech to their side.

Barcelona have offered him to Newcastle , in a bid to free up funds for Inter forward Lautaro Martinez.

A switch to Manchester United or Everton would be a controversial one due to his former career at Anfield, while Liverpool have shown no interest in re-signing their ex-midfielder.

The Reds have grown and improved exponentially since his departure, with his sale allowing the purchase of two key squad players: Virgil van Dijk and Allison.

Manchester City do not desire or want the Brazil midfielder, while Tottenham's financial concerns will prevent them from making a swoop.

Reuniting with Brendan Rodgers at Leicester is far from the most attractive of options, with the Foxes manager stating that the Brazilian is “way out of our price bracket”.

Prior to the 2020 Champions League final in which Coutinho lifted the trophy with Bayern, he remained tight-lipped on the situation of his future, telling Esporte Interativo: "On my future, I haven’t thought about it because I’m only thinking about the final."
