After calmly navigating Group B, England continued their momentum with a 3-0 win over Senegal.

They took a while to get going, but Jude Bellingham played a starring role in a game where Harry Kane also finally got off the mark in goalscoring terms for the tournament.

They face a much tougher test in the quarterfinals, though, one that will require a strong performance for the whole 90 minutes.

Who could England play in quarterfinals?

England knew who their potential opponent was before their match against Senegal, as the game between France and Poland kicked off earlier in the day. Their quarterfinal tie kicks off at 7pm GMT / 2pm ET.

France

World champions and third favourites for the tournament France ultimately defeeated the Poles 3-1 with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice in a dominant attacking performance.

Didier Deschamps' men would provide a stern test for the Three Lions in the quarters, especially with the likes of Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann in attack.

They also have Olivier Giroud in fine form, and the striker in their round of 16 victory over Poland overtook Thierry Henry as the man to score the most goals for France.

However, England have won their two previous World Cup finals meetings with France - beating them in both 1966 and 1982.

England's route to the final

If France are then vanquished, England know they will face a semi-final against one of Spain, Morocco, Portugal or Switzerland.

Iberian neighbours Spain and Portugal are the favourites to make it through their respective Round of 16 ties and a meeting between the two has the potential to be a World Cup classic.

The semifinal takes place on December 14 with kickoff at 7pm GMT / 2pm ET.

Positioned on the other side of the draw, one of the two favourites for glory in Qatar, Brazil and Argentina, could await in the final for England.
