Spain are strong favourites to record their second win of their World Cup campaign when they come up against African side Zambia.

Spain seemingly put to bed any rumours of discontent disrupting the side, as they coasted to a 3-0 win over Costa Rica in Wellington, scoring three times in six minutes.

Zambia meanwhile endured a difficult outing in their first World Cup match; despite only being down 1-0 at halftime, they capitulated in the second half to lose 5-0, and also had goalkeeper Catherine Musonda sent off for two yellow cards.

They now face their toughest match of the group stage, but have form in defeating top sides, as they did beat Germany 3-2 in a warm up match.

Spain vs Zambia lineups

Spain are unlikely to make too many changes to a winning formula, but the match could see the return of star midfielder Alexia Putellas to the starting side.

She started the opener off the bench after having an injury scare during training, and she played just under 15 minutes at the end of the match in Wellington.

  • Spain projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Rodriguez (GK) — Batlle, Andres, Parades, Carmona — Bonmati, Abelleira — Castillo, Putellas, Parralluelo — Gonzalez

Zambia will be without starting goalkeeper Catherine Musonda due to her red card against Japan, and may also be without centre back Lushomo Mweemba who was substituted during the match due to injury.

  • Zambia projected starting lineup (4-1-4-1) Sakala (GK) – Belemu, Musesa, Phiri, Mulenga, Tembo – Kundananji, S. Banda, Katongo, Mapepa — B. Banda

Japan vs. Costa Rica betting odds

Japan are expected to continue their momentum from their last match and record a comfortable victory against Costa Rica.

Bookmakers are predicting it will be difficult for Costa Rica to score let alone challenge for all three points.
