In a clash of titans, Germany and Spain meet in Stuttgart for a spot in the Euro 2024 semifinals.

Germany, led by Julian Nagelsmann, have been formidable, scoring a tournament-high 10 goals. They topped Group A and defeated Denmark in the Round of 16, with young stars like Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala shining bright.

Spain, under Luis de la Fuente, also enter the quarterfinals unbeaten, scoring nine goals. After wins against Croatia, Italy, and Albania, they overcame an early scare against Georgia to reach this stage. The team's defence, marshalled by Dani Carvajal, has conceded just once.

Both teams boast attacking prowess and solid defences, setting up an enticing battle. Germany will look to capitalize on home advantage, while Spain aim to continue their impressive form. With stars like Havertz and Musiala on one side and Morata leading Spain’s charge on the other side, fans can expect a thrilling encounter at MHP Arena.

This clash could be termed as the tournament decider, as these are the only two teams who have looked fully convincing going all the way in Euro 2024.

Spain vs. Germany lineups & team news

Spain welcomed back all their main players to secure a win against Georgia after resting 10 of them in the final group-stage match against Albania.

Nacho Fernandez and Ayoze Perez, who were fitness concerns, did not play in that game but are back among the substitutes. Dani Olmo has pressed his case for a starting berth convincingly but Luis de la Fuente has understandably kept faith with Pedri.

Spain starting lineup (4-3-3): Simon (GK) — Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Cucurella —  Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz — Yamal, Morata (c), Williams.

Germany, meanwhile, have Jonathan Tah back from suspension to partner Antonio Rudiger at centre-back. Julian Nagelsmann's other chance is a slight surprise, with Emre Can replacing Robert Andrich at the base of the midfield.

David Raum continues at left-back but Florian Wirtz has to be contnchent with a place on the bench as Leroy Sane continues in the front three.

Germany starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Neuer (GK) — Kimmich, Rudiger, Tah, Raum — Can, Kroos — Sane, Gundogan (c), Musiala — Havertz.

Spain vs. Germany prediction

  • Score prediction: Spain 1-1 Germany (Germany to win on penalties)

Spain are unbeaten in their last four games against Germany, including a stunning 6-0 friendly win in 2020 and three draws. However, past records will matter little in this Euro 2024 quarterfinal clash.

Both teams have exceptional quality in their squads, making this a closely fought contest. It's difficult to predict a clear winner in regular time, and the match could very well go to penalties. Given Germany's experience and home advantage, they might just edge out Spain in a thrilling shootout.
