Despite the wave of off-field controversy surrounding Canada's Olympic campaign, interim boss Andy Spence steered them to the quarterfinals, and they did win all three group games, despite only three points being registered following the deduction.

He could stick with an unchanged team for this clash with experienced defender Vanessa Gilles scoring winners in their last two games.

Canada predicted starting XI (3-4-3, right to left): Sheridan (GK) — Rose, Gilles, Buchanan — Lawrence, Grosso, Fleming, Lacasse — Beckie, Leon, Huitema.

Germany will be forced into a change in defence, with Kathrin Hendrich sidelined, and Sara Doorsoun set to come in as cover.

Germany predicted starting XI (4-4-2 right to left): Berger (GK) — Gwinn, Doorsoun, Schulze, Rauch — Brand, Minge, Popp, Buhl — Nusken, Schuller.

Canada vs. Germany prediction

Canada's players have done superbly to remain focused on their drive to win gold again despite a storm surrounding the camp in France.

They have passed every test put in front of them, and despite Germany boasting some star names, the defending champions should progress.

Prediction: Canada 2-1 Germany
