Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris was in attendance at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday when Arsenal pipped Newcastle United 1-0 in the Premier League.

The Lorient forward is in London for his the Christmas break and took time out of his busy schedule to go and support countryman Christian Atsu, who began the game for Newcastle as they sought to end a seven-game winless streak.

Mesut Ozil's early strike was enough to win the day for Arsene Wenger's side, which extends the Magpies’ uninspiring run, as they continue to battle with relegation threats.

Atsu has started Newcastle’s last two league games after suffered a thigh injury kept him out of action for almost six weeks.

He lasted 53 minutes on Saturday before he was replaced by Matt Ritchie. It is however unclear if Waris will be pushing for a deal to England after previously being linked with Stoke, Burnley, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace.
