Heung-Min Son starred for Spurs, adding to his winner in the first leg with two in three minutes at the Etihad amidst a frantic opening 20 that saw five goals scored.
The midfielder makes it onto the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week shortlist for the second match week running, as does Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino.
Coming off the bench at half-time to replace Divock Origi, it didn’t take long for the Brazilian to make his presence felt against Porto. He made it 3-1 to Liverpool on the night, 5-1 on aggregate, with a glancing header past Iker Casillas.
Lionel Messi again took centre stage at Camp Nou on Tuesday, opening the scoring against Manchester United early in the first half with an excellent, trademark left-footed effort from outside the area. His second followed soon after to effectively seal Barcelona’s progression and set up a tantalising semi-final clash with Liverpool.
Ajax will take on Tottenham in the other tie after knocking out Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Matthijs de Ligt, Ajax’s 19-year-old club captain, grabbed the winner at Allianz Stadium to send them to their first Champions League semi-final since 1996-97.
