Canada, one of just two CONCACAF nations to reach the 2024 Copa America quarterfinals alongside Panama, will take on Venezuela from Arlington, Texas on Friday with a shot to reach the semifinals of the competition.

Les Rouges scored just one goal through the entire group stage, but managed to advance thanks to a hard-fought scoreless draw against Chile. It hasn't been pretty, but Jesse Marsch successfully forged a pathway to the knockout stage, where they will now face their stiffest test since opening against the defending champions, Argentina.

They'll have to stand tall without Inter playmaker Tajon Buchanan, who suffered a gut-wrenching injury in training on Tuesday and will miss significant time for both club and country.

Venezuela topped Group B ahead of Mexico, Jamaica, and Ecuador with victories in all three games. They struggled through a poor run of matches prior to the Copa America, but sitting fourth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings for the current cycle, they represent a challenging opponent for Canada at this stage.

Venezuela vs. Canada prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Venezuela (+160)
  • Score prediction: Venezuela 2-0 Canada

Make no mistake, this is a very difficult match for Canada. Despite coming into this tournament on a five-match winless streak, Venezuela have been clearly the better side in all three of their Copa America matches to this point.

Venezuela are being rewarded for testing themselves against strong competition before the tournament, when they played to a close friendly defeat against Italy. Against the Europeans, Venezuela matched them on shots and created a whopping five "big chances" but fell just short in the finishing department.

With strong plus odds on the moneyline, they are primed to see their way through to the semifinals, where it's thought likely that defending champions Argentina await.

Venezuela vs. Canada best bet

Canada were forced to defend through most of their group-stage journey, and there's little reason for that to be any different here against a strong opponent. Venezuela won the corner count in two of their three group games, only beaten by a desperate Mexico side who threw numbers forward for most of the game.

Les Rouges, meanwhile, collected fewer corners in two of their three games, save the finale against Chile when they collected six of their eight corners in a fluky first half against a struggling opponent. In a grinder against Peru, Canada picked up only one corner, and that match is likely to be more representative of how this game will play out.

While the corner line of 4.5 for Venezuela is certainly reachable as well, the -145 odds aren't nearly palatable enough to take a shot at. If that increases to 5.5 somewhere around even money, then it's worth considering.

Venezuela vs. Canada prop bet

Venezuela proved in the group stage they can defend well in numerous game states. They controlled the finale against a pesky and talented Jamaica side well, conceding just eight shots worth 0.52 xG and zero "big chances" in the match. That after they had weathered a storm against wasteful Mexico in the second group match, with El Tri ripping off 18 shots worth 1.9 xG from open play but failing to score.

Canada, meanwhile, have struggled to create chances across the whole of their matches to this point. They had a few opportunities to spring an upset against Argentina but flopped in the attacking third, then waited 74 minutes before securing the winner against 10-man Peru, and again fell short in front of goal throughout the scoreless draw against Chile where they played a man up for nearly an hour.

Since a 2-2 draw with Panama way back in late 2022, Venezuela have conceded more than one goal in a match just once across a 12-match stretch, coming in a 2-1 defeat to Italy. They held Colombia and Brazil to just one goal, while securing eight clean sheets. It will be extremely difficult for Canada here.
