USA World Cup 2022 players on final roster

The player snapshots below are in alphabetical order by last name with all stats correct prior to Qatar 2022:

Brenden Aaronson

  • Positions: Winger, attacking center midfielder
  • Clubs: Leeds (2022-present), RB Salzburg (2021-22), Philadelphia Union (2017-20)
  • Age: 22 / Height: 5-foot-10
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Medford, New Jersey)
  • USA appearances: 24 / Goals: 6
  • USA debut: February 1, 2020 vs. Costa Rica
Brenden Aaronson - USMNT - September 2021

Brenden Aaronson is one of the crown jewels of the newest generation of USMNT players. Still just 22 years old, the kid from Medford, New Jersey known as the 'Medford Messi' has established himself as a top-class player.

He developed in the Philadelphia Union academy before shining in Europe's Champions League with Austria's RB Salzburg and earning a move to Leeds United in the English Premier League. Since his switch to England, Aaronson has partnered with fellow American Tyler Adams to prove he belongs in the English top flight.

Kellyn Acosta

  • Position: Central midfield
  • Clubs: LAFC (2022-present), Colorado Rapids (2018-22), FC Dallas (2012-18)
  • Age: 27 / Height: 5-foot-10
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Plano, Texas)
  • USA appearances: 53 / Goals: 2
  • USA debut: January 31, 2016 vs. Iceland
Kellyn Acosta USMNT Colombia 10112018

One of the few veterans in a young USMNT player pool, Acosta's 53 caps will be a valuable addition to a roster filled with inexperience. While he may not be a starter, the technically gifted Acosta is more than a capable fill-in should any of the midfielder starters need to be replaced. His acumen on set-pieces is an asset as well, and it could see him emerge as the preferred choice in some cases.

Tyler Adams

  • Position: Central defensive midfield
  • Clubs: Leeds (2022-present), RB Leipzig (2019-22), New York Red Bulls (2016-19)
  • Age: 23 / Height: 5-foot-9
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Wappingers Falls, New York)
  • USA appearances: 32  / Goals: 1
  • USA debut: November 14, 2017 vs. Portugal
Tyler Adams - Christian Pulisic - USMNT - November 12, 2021

Tyler Adams (above right) is a product of the Red Bull system, having moved from the New York Red Bulls to Leeds United via RB Leipzig. His calming presence at the base of the midfield trio has proven invaluable, and when healthy he's one of the first names on the USMNT team sheet, often donning the captain's armband.

Cameron Carter-Vickers

  • Position: Center-back
  • Clubs: Celtic (2022-present), Celtic (2021-22, loan), Bournemouth (2020-21, loan), Luton Town (2020, loan), Stoke City (2019-20, loan), Swansea City (2018-19, loan), Ipswich Town (2018, loan), Sheffield United (2017-18, loan), Tottenham Hotspur (2016-2022)
  • Age: 24 / Height: 6-foot-1
  • Place of birth (Hometown): England (Southend)
  • USA appearances: 11 / Goals: 0
  • USA debut: November 14, 2017 vs. Portugal
Cameron Carter-Vickers USMNT 09112018

As a youth player at Premier League side Tottenham, Carter-Vickers was touted as a player of the future for the USMNT. His days at Tottenham ultimately proved unfulfilling, but the defender has seen a career revitalization at Celtic in Glasgow where he's built himself back into an option for the national team.

Luca de la Torre

  • Position: Central midfield
  • Clubs: Celta Vigo (2022-present), Heracles (2020-22), Fulham (2017-20)
  • Age: 24 / Height: 5-foot-10
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (San Diego, California)
  • USA appearances: 12 / Goals: 0
  • USA debut: June 2, 2018 vs. Rep. of Ireland

Like Carter-Vickers, De la Torre was a Premier League youth product in London. He too, however, left Fulham with plenty to prove, and did so at Dutch side Heracles despite relegation from the Eredivisie. His performances in World Cup qualifying cemented his place amongst the USMNT options for the 2022 World Cup as a backup to the "MMA" midfield.

Sergino Dest

  • Position: Right-back
  • Clubs: AC Milan (2022-present, loan), Barcelona (2020-present), Ajax (2018-20)
  • Age: 22 / Height: 5-foot-9
  • Place of birth (Hometown): Netherlands (Almere, Flevoland)
  • USA appearances: 19 / Goals: 2
  • USA debut: September 7, 2019 vs. Mexico
Sergino Dest - USMNT - October 13, 2021

Born in the Netherlands, Dest is an Ajax youth product, eligible for U.S. duty through his father. He was sold to Barcelona in 2020, a massive leap for a young American talent. However, his time at the Camp Nou has been disappointing, unable to establish himself as an option under Xavi. After being frozen out of the squad, he was loaned to AC Milan this past summer, hoping for playing time. Despite his club struggles, Dest is considered the starter at right-back when healthy.

Jesus Ferreira

  • Positions: Center forward, winger
  • Clubs: FC Dallas (2017-present)
  • Age: 21 / Height: 5-foot-9
  • Place of birth (Hometown): Colombia (Santa Marta, Magdalena)
  • USA appearances: 15 / Goals: 7
  • USA debut: February 1, 2020 vs. Costa Rica

The son of a former Colombian international, Ferreira was swayed to represent the United States, earning his citizenship in 2019. In a crowded and uninspiring USMNT striker pool, Ferreira has elevated himself to the presumed starter thanks to great club form and good tactical pressing. Still just 21 years old, the FC Dallas youth product has been near the top of the MLS goalscoring charts the past two seasons, but has yet to really make the international spot his own.

Ethan Horvath

  • Position: Goalkeeper
  • Clubs: Luton Town (2022-present, loan), Nottingham Forest (2021-present), Club Brugge (2017-21), Molde (2013-17)
  • Age: 27 / Height: 6-foot-4
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Highland Ranch, Colorado)
  • USA appearances: 8
  • USA debut: October 7, 2016 vs. Cuba
Ethan Horvath - USA

Hailing from outside Denver, Horvath has spent time in goal at a number of different clubs across Europe as he looks to establish himself as a regular with the USMNT. He moved to England in the summer of 2021, but failed to establish himself as the starter at Championship side Nottingham Forest. His loan move to Luton Town, also in England, this past summer has afforded him more time on the field, and is fighting for a spot as a backup 'keeper on the U.S. squad.

Sean Johnson

  • Position: Goalkeeper
  • Clubs: NYCFC 2016-present), Chicago Fire (2010-16)
  • Age: 33 / Height: 6-foot-3
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Lilburn, Georgia)
  • USA appearances: 10
  • USA debut: January 22, 2011 vs. Chile
Sean Johnson USMNT 06302019

Battling for the third goalkeeping spot in Qatar, Johnson is an MLS veteran who led NYCFC to the MLS Cup in 2021, his first domestic title. He began his career at the University of Central Florida before going pro with the Chicago Fire who selected him in the fourth round of the MLS draft. He earned the starting job in his first MLS season, and hasn't looked back, establishing himself as a steady presence in goal, if not a flashy one.

Aaron Long

  • Position: Center-back
  • Clubs: NY Red Bulls (2016-present), Seattle Sounders (2014-16), Portland Timbers (2014)
  • Age: 29 / Height: 6-foot-1
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Oak Hills, California)
  • USA appearances: 29 / Goals: 3
  • USA debut: October 17, 2018 vs. Peru
Aaron Long USMNT Gold Cup 06222019

A rock at the back for the New York Red Bulls for years, Long finally got his chance at the international level in the wake of the 2018 World Cup disaster. He was a rock at the back for the USA in the 2019 Gold Cup, and appeared to be a projected fixture for the entire World Cup cycle before an Achilles injury struck in May 2021. He hasn't looked the same since returning, but Berhalter seems to like the way he pairs up with Walker Zimmerman at the heart of the defense.

Weston McKennie

  • Position: Central midfield
  • Clubs: Juventus (2021-present), Schalke (2017-20)
  • Age: 24 / Height: 6-foot-0
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Little Elm, Texas)
  • USA appearances: 37 / Goals: 9
  • USA debut: November 14, 2017 vs. Portugal
Weston McKennie USMNT vs. El Salvador 012722

One of the U.S. golden generation, the Juventus midfielder has grown into a steady central force for the United States. His box-to-box abilities have helped him secure a significant role at one of Italy's biggest clubs, growing from an often aimless runner at Schalke into a genuine No. 8 at his current club. Still, McKennie's growth is not complete, and he can improve with his distribution and scattered movement which can hinder the team's ball progression.

Shaq Moore

  • Position: Right-back, right wing-back
  • Clubs: Nashville SC (2022-present), Tenerife (2019-22), Atl. Levante (2018-19), Reus Deportiu (2018), Oviedo Vetusta (2016), Huracan (2015-16)
  • Age: 26 / Height: 5-foot-11
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Powder Springs, Georgia)
  • USA appearances: 15 / Goals: 1
  • USA debut: June 2, 2018 vs. Rep. of Ireland

Moor is a right-back who has won the confidence of Gregg Berhalter as a strong one-on-one defender, who can also push up into the attack and deliver a quality cross. The 26-year-old moved from IMG Academy to Spain and he spent most of his career honing his game in the top division and second tier in Spain before returning stateside to join Nashville SC.

Jordan Morris

  • Positions: Left/right wing
  • Clubs: Seattle Sounders (2016-present), Swansea City (2021, loan)
  • Age: 28 / Height: 6-foot-0
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Seattle, Washington)
  • USA appearances: 49 / Goals: 11
  • USA debut: November 18, 2014 vs. Rep. of Ireland
Jordan Morris USA Martinique Gold Cup

A wily veteran of the Jurgen Klinsmann era, Morris is one of those guys who continues to stick around although he may not be the most popular figure with fans. Yet here he is, still plugging away. Morris, a former Stanford standout who earned his first international call-up while still in college, is known for his high work rate and ability to track back defensively and also contribute up front with his powerful runs. His experience could prove an asset in Qatar.

Yunus Musah

  • Position: Central midfield
  • Clubs: Valencia (2020-present)
  • Age: 19 / Height: 5-foot-10
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (New York City, New York)
  • USA appearances: 19 / Goals: 0
  • USA debut: November 12, 2020 vs. Wales
Yunus Musah - USA

Few casual American fans had heard of Yunus Musah when he earned his first international appearance in late 2020, but in just two years the teenager developed himself into a first-team starter. Born in the United States while his Ghanan mother was on vacation, he joined the Arsenal youth squad at age nine. Still a young player, Musah has matured on the field as a progressional wizard with defensive capabilities. His passing vision is a unique asset in the "MMA" midfield, as something both McKennie and Adams can occasionally lack.

Christian Pulisic

  • Positions: Left/right wing, attacking center midfield, left/right wing-back
  • Clubs: Chelsea (2019-present), Borussia Dortmund (2016-19)
  • Age: 24 / Height: 5-foot-10
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Hershey, Pennsylvania)
  • USA appearances: 52 / Goals: 21
  • USA debut: March 30, 2016 vs. Guatemala
Christian-Pulisic-FTR

The face of the United States national team, Christian Pulisic is the unquestioned on-field leader of the squad. A trailblazer for Americans at the European club level first with Borussia Dortmund and then at Premier League giants Chelsea, Pulisic earned his nickname 'Captain America' by proving himself indispensable for the USMNT.

Playing a contributing role as Chelsea won the 2020/21 Champions League, Pulisic positioned himself as one of the most accomplished American players of all-time at just 24 years old, and promises to have a great career. However, he's fallen on hard times at the London club and could use a breakout World Cup performance to not only win more time at Stamford Bridge, but also to vanquish the ghosts of 2017 when he was left in tears as part of the U.S. team that was eliminated from contention for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Tim Ream

  • Positions: Center-back, left-back
  • Clubs: Fulham (2015-present), Bolton (2012-15), NY Red Bulls (2010-12), St. Louis University (2006-10)
  • Age: 35 / Height: 6-foot-1
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (St. Louis, Missouri)
  • USA appearances: 46 / Goals: 1
  • USA debut: November 17, 2010 vs. South Africa

The veteran central defender secured his spot on the roster thanks to a strong start to the 2022/23 Premier League season with Fulham. The 35-year-old St. Louis native, who attended Saint Louis University, made his professional debut with the New York Red Bulls in MLS and impressed enough as a left-footed defender before earning a transfer to England where he started with Bolton Wanderers before moving to London club Fulham.

Giovanni Reyna

  • Positions: Right/left wing, attacking center midfield
  • Clubs: Borussia Dortmund (2019-present)
  • Age: 19 / Height: 6-foot-1
  • Place of birth (Hometown): England (Sunderland)
  • USA appearances: 14 / Goals: 4
  • USA debut: November 12, 2020 vs. Wales
Gio Reyna

One of the brightest young stars on the U.S. roster, Gio Reyna is considered a future USMNT star. The son of former U.S. standout Claudio Reyna, Gio was eligible to play for England thanks to his place of birth, but chose to represent the United States as his father did. While he's had big moments already despite being just a teenager, Reyna has struggled with persistent muscle injuries early in his career that have halted his contributions over the last couple of years. Now healthy and working his way back into the Borussia Dortmund lineup, the 2022 World Cup is begging for Gio Reyna's breakout.

Antonee 'Jedi' Robinson

  • Position: Left-back
  • Clubs: Fulham (2020-present), Wigan (2018-20), Bolton (2017-18, loan), Everton (2017-18)
  • Age: 25 / Height: 6-foot-0
  • Place of birth: England (Milton Keynes)
  • USA appearances: 29 / Goals: 2
  • USA debut: May 29, 2018 vs. Bolivia
Antonee Robinson - USMNT - October 2021

Antonee Robinson, affectionately known as "Jedi" since he was a little boy, was born and raised in England but eligible to play for the United States through his father, who was raised in White Plains, N.Y. An Everton academy product, Jedi never appeared for the Toffees, instead making his senior debut for Wigan Athletic before a move to Fulham elevated him to the Premier League thanks to the club's promotion in 2022. The left-back has developed into one of the most consistent performers on the U.S. roster, and his two-way abilities make him a dangerous, and necessary, component for Gregg Berhalter in Qatar. He's a guaranteed starter when healthy.

Cristian Roldan

  • Positions: Central midfielder, right wing
  • Clubs: Seattle Sounders (2015-present)
  • Age: 27 / Height: 5-foot-8
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Artesia, California)
  • USA appearances: 32 / Goals: 0
  • USA debut: July 13, 2017 vs. Martinique
Cristian Roldan USMNT 09112019

A Seattle Sounders lifer, Cristian Roldan is another trusted veteran of the U.S. national team and an overall gamer. A two-time MLS Cup champion with the Sounders and two-time Gold Cup winner with the USMNT, Roldan has had to grind for every international appearance. His chances of making the U.S. World Cup roster seemed in doubt due to a groin injury this summer which required surgery. A clear sign of the key cog he has become for club and country? Roldan missed out on seven straight Sounders starts in the stretch run of the MLS season and the Sounders missed the playoffs for the first time in club history.

Josh Sargent

  • Positions: Center forward, right wing
  • Clubs: Norwich City (2021-present), Werder Bremen (2019-21)
  • Age: 22 / Height: 6-foot-1
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (O'Fallon, Missouri)
  • USA appearances: 20 / Goals: 5
  • USA debut: May 29, 2018 vs. Bolivia
Josh Sargent - USMNT - June 2021

A young forward with versatility and a knack for goals, Sargent began his career in the Sporting Kansas City academy before trials with PSV Eindhoven and Schalke turned into a contract with German side Werder Bremen. He made his debut for the club's senior team at just 18 years old and became a consistent presence in the German side's attack. He signed with Premier League side Norwich City in the summer of 2021, but suffered an extremely poor season as the Canaries finished bottom of the league and were relegated. The disappointing season saw Sargent fall off the USMNT map, but a resurgence in the Championship has seen him back in the mix ahead of the World Cup.

Joe Scally

  • Positions: Right-back, left-back, right wing
  • Clubs: Borussia Monchengladbach (2020-present), NYCFC (2018-20)
  • Age: 19 / Height: 6-foot-0
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Lake Grove, New York)
  • USA appearances: 3 / Goals: 0
  • USA debut: June 2, 2022 vs. Morocco
Joe Scally - Borussia Monchengladbach - August 13, 2021

After signing with NYCFC at the age of 15, becoming the second-youngest player ever in U.S. professional soccer, the MLS club flipped him to German side Borussia Monchengladbach just two years later. As a youth international for the United States, Scally was years younger than his teammates at each level and at 19 years old, the full-back is a regular starter in the Bundesliga making him an obvious contender for a ticket to Qatar.

Matt Turner

  • Position: Goalkeeper
  • Clubs: Arsenal (2022-present), New England Revolution (2016-22), Fairfield Stags (2014-16)
  • Age: 28 / Height: 6-foot-2
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Park Ridge, New Jersey)
  • USA appearances: 20
  • USA debut: February 1, 2021 vs. Trinidad & Tobago
Matt Turner of the USMNT

An undrafted rookie in 2016, Turner slowly worked his way to MLS prominence at New England before enjoying a sudden and meteoric rise to the USMNT starting goalkeeper job and a move to one of the Premier League's biggest clubs. Starting all six matches for the U.S. en route to a 2021 Gold Cup title, Turner has proven steadier and more consistent than the other goalkeeping options at Berhalter's disposal. Even while riding the bench at Arsenal behind Aaron Ramsdale, against whom he may match up against when the U.S. plays England, Turner has proven he's able to come into the USMNT and recapture form as if he were playing regular club minutes. It's a big boost for Berhalter to know he has a clear leader in net.

Timothy Weah

  • Position: Right wing, left wing, center forward
  • Clubs: LOSC Lille (2019-present), Celtic (2019, loan), PSG (2018-19)
  • Age: 22 / Height: 6-foot-0
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (New York City, New York)
  • USA appearances: 25 / Goals: 3
  • USA debut: March 28, 2018 vs. Paraguay
Timothy Weah - USMNT - Jamaica - Nov. 16, 2021

Son of former Liberia international and current Liberia president George Weah, Timothy has shown plenty of flair and technical ability at a young age. First with PSG before moving to fellow French club Lille, Weah is an attacking asset for both club and country when healthy. That last part is key — injuries have hampered the early portion of his career. Still, if fully fit, Weah will have a key role to play at the World Cup and will push others for a starting winger role.

Haji Wright

  • Position: Center forward
  • Clubs: Antalyaspor (2022-present), Soderjyske (2021-22, loan), VVV-Venlo (2019-20), SV Sandhausen (2017-18, loan), Schalke 04 (2017-19)
  • Age: 24 / Height: 6-foot-3
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Los Angeles, Calif.)
  • USA appearances: 3 / Goals: 1
  • USA debut: June 2, 2022 vs. Morocco
Haji Wright scored a penalty kick in his USMNT debut against Morocco on June 1, 2022
(Getty Images)

LA-born Haji Wright earned a surprise call-up to the USA World Cup team in light of his strong start to the 2022/23 Turkish league campaign with Antalyaspor. With the USMNT still searching for a productive center forward, Wright's nine goals in 12 games in Turkey made him the hot hand that Berhalter took a chance on.

He developed in the LA Galaxy academy before jumping to Europe, where he bounced around in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark, before landing in the Turkish league. He has proven a productive fit on a mid-table team in one of Europe's stronger leagues.

DeAndre Yedlin

  • Position: Right-back
  • Clubs: Inter Miami (2022-present), Galatasaray (2021-22), Newcastle United (2016-21), Sunderland (2015-16, loan), Tottenham Hotspur (2014-16), Seattle Sounders (2013-15)
  • Age: 29 / Height: 5-foot-8
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Seattle, Washington)
  • USA appearances: 75 / Goals: 0
  • USA debut: February 1, 2014 vs. South Korea
DeAndre Yedlin - USA - Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano - Mexico - Nations League - June 2021

Easily the most experienced international among his teammates on the World Cup roster, DeAndre Yedlin is a likely selection for Berhalter for exactly that reason. Yedlin spent time with Champions League clubs Tottenham and Galatasaray, plus a long stint at Premier League side Newcastle, but those days are clearly behind him.

He's struggled for consistency at MLS side Inter Miami this season, but Berhalter will be looking to him for his big-game experience and as an option to help close out matches off the bench. Yedlin is the only player on this list with prior World Cup experience, selected by Jurgen Klinsmann eight years ago as a 21-year-old in Brazil 2014.

Walker Zimmerman

  • Position: Center-back
  • Clubs: Nashville SC (2020-present), LAFC (2017-20), FC Dallas (2013-17)
  • Age: 29 / Height: 6-foot-3
  • Place of birth (Hometown): USA (Lawrenceville, Georgia)
  • USA appearances: 33 / Goals: 3
  • USA debut: February 4, 2017 vs. Jamaica
Walker Zimmerman - USA - Honduras - World Cup Qualifying - February 2, 2022

Walker Zimmerman is the only surefire starter at the center-back position for Gregg Berhalter although his error against Wales had fans questioning his starting status. The 29-year-old has grown into a towering presence — literally — at the back for the United States, with dominant aerial prowess. His presence on set-pieces will be key, but his true value will come defensively as the U.S. looks to play a press and build out of the back. His locker room presence is another valuable commodity, as the squad clearly enjoys having Zimmerman as a leader in the clubhouse.
