Sporting CP will be looking to capitalize on home-field advantage as they face reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round-of-16 match on Tuesday.

They will be facing a City side which is once again running rampant at the top of the Premier League, and it warmed up over the weekend by strolling to a 4-0 win over struggling Norwich City.

Sporting, meanwhile, drew 2-2 with Porto in an explosive match that saw them pick up three red cards — two in a brawl on the full-time whistle.

The Portuguese team qualified for this stage by finishing second in Group C, behind Ajax, while City were Group A winners.

The two sides have only met twice before — in the Europa League a decade ago, when Sporting progressed on the away goals rule (3-3 on aggregate), which won't be in effect this time around.

Sporting CP vs. Manchester City projected lineups

Pedro Goncalves, also known as Pote, who has 13 goals in all competitions this season with four in the Champions League alone, is expected to have recovered from a muscular problem in time to return to the starting Sporting lineup.

Sporting CP projected lineup (3-4-3): Adan (GK) — Inacio, Coates, Feddal — Porro, Nunes, Palhinha, Reis — Sarabia, Paulinho, Goncalves.

Kyle Walker of Manchester City is suspended, while Gabriel Jesus and record-signing Jack Grealish will miss out through injury. Pep Guardiola opted to rest the quartet of Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Aymeric Laporte and Joao Cancelo at the weekend, but all of them should return to the matchday squad.

Manchester City projected lineup (4-3-3): Ederson (GK) — Stones, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo — Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne — Mahrez, Foden, Sterling.

The odds are for a City victory, and by a considerable margin. The English side is unbeaten in its last six matches in all competitions; in fact, in domestic league competition, Premier League leaders City have 16 wins and one draw in their last 17 matches, and are unbeaten since October.

City finished the Champions League group stage as the best attacking team (2.80 xG per game), with only four teams clocking better defensive records (0.92 xGA per game). They will be tested against a Sporting side that is especially strong at home, having scored 19 goals in 11 domestic league fixtures so far this campaign and another eight goals in three home Champions League group matches.

Guardiola's men haven't kept a clean sheet in the Champions League yet this season and their away form in Europe hasn't been impeccable, with two defeats out of three.
