After showing signs of recovery following a poor start to 2022/23, Southampton and Manchester United will look to build some momentum when they meet on Matchday 4.

Both sides were underdogs in their third matches of the campaign, and Saints fell behind again with 36 minutes to go at Leicester City. Still, their comeback to draw 2-2 with Leeds United seemed to inspire some belief, and two Che Adams goals in the final quarter of the game got the visitors their first win of the season.

United then produced an even greater upset on Monday, bewildering pundits as Erik ten Hag's side belied two dreadful first performances to hand Liverpool their first league defeat of the calendar year.

Can either side make it two successive Premier League victories? How can you watch it? The Sporting News has the details.

Southampton vs. Man United predicted lineups

Right-back Tino Livramento and attacker Theo Walcott remain long-term absentees for Southampton, but left-back Romain Perraud could return to the squad.

Che Adams, who had been linked to Nottingham Forest, was considered a doubt before the draw with Leicester. His prolific cameo from the bench surely may put the striker in contention to start this time.

Southampton predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Bazunu (GK) — Walker-Peters, Bella-Kotchap, Salisu, Djenepo — Ward-Prowse, Lavia — Aribo, Elyounoussi, A. Armstrong — Mara.

Midfielder Casemiro could make his United debut after being presented on the pitch before the Liverpool game following his arrival from Real Madrid.

Winger Facundo Pellistri remains sidelined by an ankle injury, while Erik ten Hag will have to decide whether to recall Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire, who were dropped from the starting XI last time out.

Man United predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): De Gea — Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia — McTominay, Eriksen — Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford — Martial.

Southampton vs. Man United betting odds

United's status as odds-on favourites will be justified if they can carry on where they left off against Liverpool, when their new-found energy and incisive counter-attacking felt a dimension away from the drudgery they displayed during their first two fixtures.

Southampton are excellent odds should United revert to the form that their sceptics suspect is type. The draw could also appeal: both games between these teams finished 1-1 in 2021/22, with a Fred own goal putting Saints in front at St Mary's last August.
