'She is always a winner' - Adepoju hails Oshoala on Barcelona title triumph image

Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has congratulated Asisat Oshoala on her Spanish Primera Iberdrola title victory with Barcelona earlier this month.

The Catalans were declared champions by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after the season was finally abandoned due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The abandonment saw Barcelona emerge as the winner of the 2019/2020 top-flight season after 21 games with 59 points - a feat they achieved without losing a game, the fifth club to achieve such a feat.

The 25-year-old has now won her first league title in Europe, after winning the Copa Catalunya Cup and Super Women's Cup with Luis Cortes' team earlier.

And her latest achievement has seen the Nigerian legend, who is now a La Liga ambassador, has described the four-time African Women's Footballer of the Year as 'always a winner'.

"I have to congratulate Asisat [Oshoala]," Adepoju told Goal.

"She is always a winner. She has gone to Barcelona and did them a great play last season even though they could not win.

"But this year, they have won the Primera Iberdrola in which I am very happy for her and for Barcelona too even though Real Madrid [Tacon] is there and other clubs."

The former Arsenal and Liverpool striker netted eight goals in 11 matches, including in the Champions League final against Lyon but they went without silverware in the 2018-19 season.

She scored 26 goals in 25 games this season to help the 2019 Champions League finalists to their first title in five years and the fifth in history.

Oshoala's title win saw her became the second African woman to win the Spanish Iberdrola diadem after Equatorial Guinea's Jade Boho won titles with Rayo Vallecano in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Overall, the FC Robo Queens product has won four league titles, the first in Nigeria with Rivers Angels in 2014 and two in China with Dalian Quanjian (2017 and 2018) and now with Barcelona.
