Remaining Arsenal fixtures, Premier League games as Gunners chase title in 2023 run-in

Arsenal's remaining fixture list this season is a stark reminder of how critical each and every point the rest of the way will be as the Gunners look to secure their first Premier League crown since 2004.

Mikel Arteta has led Arsenal to a prominent position atop the league standings for much of the 2022/23 season, but a four-match winless run in April, including a loss to defending champions Manchester City, has set the Gunners back considerably in their title quest.

Arsenal have very difficult games against top-seven sides remaining on the schedule, both home and away.

As a result, oddsmakers have City as the clear favourites to win the English league title despite their continued involvement in two other competitions (FA Cup and Champions League).

Arsenal remaining fixtures, schedule

Arsenal have four matches remaining on their Premier League fixture list.

As it stands, they hold a two-point lead atop the table, but second-place Manchester City has two games in hand, meaning City at this point control their own destiny in the title race, as they have a higher potential points total (maximum of 94 compared to Arsenal's max of 90 points).

With Arsenal knocked out of all other competitions both domestic and abroad, these four games will determine the rest of their season's fate.

Arsenal run-in for 2023 season

The Gunners face a very difficult finish to the Premier League season, looking to keep pace with Man City atop the table.

Newcastle (May 7, away)

Traveling to Newcastle is a difficult test this season, as many have discovered. Of Newcastle's four defeats in league play this campaign, only one came at St. James' Park: the 2-0 loss to Liverpool in mid-February that saw the Magpies still put in a strong performance only to be thwarted by goalkeeper Alisson.

This match is a huge one for Arsenal, who will have to show their top class to earn all three points in this fixture. Not even their chief title rivals Man City were able to earn all three points here, held to a thrilling 3-3 draw that saw the Citizens fall 3-1 down before the hour mark only to mount a nifty comeback.

Brighton (May 14, home)

While the Newcastle game is probably the toughest remaining away fixture on Arsenal's run-in, this home match against Brighton is close behind. Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi is making a name for himself as a tactical genius, and Brighton have proven themselves worthy opponents to all the top Premier League sides.

Arsenal hit Brighton for three early goals en route to a 4-2 win last time these two teams faced off, but that was in the heart of Arsenal's best league form this season, and they'll have to dig deep to produce a similar scoreline this time around.

Nottingham Forest (May 20, away)

With the toughest part of Arsenal's run-in in the rearview mirror, the Gunners end the season with two games against relegation candidates. Should the Gunners still be within shouting distance of Man City in the title race, they'll hope to finish strong, beginning with a match at Nottingham Forest, who have been in or around the drop zone all year long. It goes without saying that three points here, and on the final day as well, are a must for Arsenal to have any chance of coming away with the league title.

Wolves (May 28, home)

The Gunners have the slight advantage over their title rivals Man City in that they finish the league campaign at home. While City are fighting on multiple fronts, including matches to come in the FA Cup and Champions League, Arsenal will have significant rest and will end the year in front of their home crowd.

Wolves have been a very mixed bag this year, but the Gunners dispatched them at Molineux 2-0 in November on the back of a Martin Odegaard second-half brace, and they should have few problems taking care of business in this season-ending game which should see Wolves safe from relegation. Whether it will make a difference or not in the standings relies on the fixtures that come before.
