On 15 September the AFF Suzuki Cup Trophy Tour kicked off in Cambodia with AEON Mall 1 being the venue for the event. Football fans were afforded a chance to catch a glimpse of the famous trophy and certain notable football faces.
Significantly the high-profile event was graced by the Chief Executive Officer of Cambodia Suzuki Motor Nobuo Kidokoro, who is also the tournament sponsor. Accompanying him were Cambodian national team assistant coach Ung Kanyanith and certain members of the Cambodian national team.
It is certainly an exciting time for the Angkor Warriors after they managed to lure former AC Milan midfielder Keisuke Honda to their national team set-up, where the former Japanese international will serve as the General Manager.
Cambodia will definitely feel that their chances of having a successful AFF Championship campaign will be strengthened now that Honda is on board with them. The Angkor Warriors find themselves in group A with the likes of Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos and Vietnam.
On the other hand the Cambodians will kick off their tournament by playing against 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup winners, Malaysia, on November 8th in Phnom Penh. ASEAN’s showpiece tournament will be held from November 8 to December 15 across 10 Southeast Asian nations.
Following Phnom Penh, the trophy was on tour in Yangon, Myanmar on October 23, Manila, the Philippines on October 27, in Bangkok, Thailand on October 28, in Hanoi, Vietnam on October 30, and will be on display in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 4.
