Dani Carvajal - The loyalty for Real Madrid
Having made 423 appearances for the club since his debut, Carvajal has become an integral part of Real Madrid’s success. With veterans like Nacho and Toni Kroos leaving last summer, Carvajal has stepped up as one of the key senior figures.
Despite his advancing age, the Spanish defender had one of his best seasons in 2023-24, helping Madrid to a La Liga title, a Champions League victory, and shining for Spain at Euro 2024.
It seems only a matter of time before Carvajal pens a new deal. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via Daily Briefing podcast), the club and Carvajal are “moving closer to an agreement,” with only the formalities left to be completed. There’s no surprise in this, as Carvajal has never hidden his desire to stay with Madrid.
The defender previously hinted that if he were to leave Europe, it would likely be for a different continent, not for another Spanish or European club.
Still the right man for the job
Despite speculation linking Real Madrid to younger stars like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James, Carvajal has shown he’s still got it.
Starting this season strong, he has already made six appearances in La Liga and the Champions League, proving that age is just a number. With Lucas Vazquez also nearing the end of his contract, Carvajal’s importance to the squad is undeniable.
As vice-captain to Luka Modric, Carvajal has donned the captain’s armband regularly, with Modric turning 39 this year. Florentino Pérez, Real Madrid’s president, understands the value of experience and leadership, and tying Carvajal down to a new contract will only strengthen the team’s stability.
