Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that he has begun talks about his future at the club and he will continue to do so next week.

This will come as music to the ears of Magpies fans who hold the Spaniard in the highest regard for the work he has done on a shoestring budget.

Benitez has been linked with the Arsenal job as well as the top position at PSG this week, but he says he is talking about extending his stay on Tyneside.

“I have had conversations with the club and we will talk again next week. My representatives are talking with Lee Charnley and they will again.

“It is about my future and everything else too. But we will see what happens. It is good if things are resolved quickly.”

The 58-year-old added: “I don’t want to talk about my ambitions.

“The ambitions of the club are the ambitions of the fans. We have to try to do our best with this massive club.”

Now that survival is secured for Newcastle, Benitez has his eyes on a top 10 finish this season.

The Magpies have been on a good run lately and the former Liverpool boss wants to continue this form against bottom-placed West Brom this weekend.

“We have to remain compact, be organised - some games we have won because we take our chances.

“We have been one of the best 10 teams for shots, but also the best 10 for defending.

“We have had good balance and we need to keep that.”
